LaChapelle in Prague

Have you seen Jesus surrounded by rappers having the last supper in New York? I already did and it was slightly impressive as well as Courtney holding the dead body of Kurt Cobain.

Actually, I hadn´t visited any exhibition since summer and I´d missed it! LaChapelle´s one in Prague is definitely worth visiting.

I´m pretty sure that it´s not necessary to introduce you this American photographer, anyway, what you might not know – his work doesn´t consist only from those well-known fashion and advertisement pictures. Many of them were inspired by renaissance, surrealism, religion which mingles with sarcasm, absurdity and a sense of finality of both material and cultural values.

And one more thing to mention. The reason why he finally decided to expose his photos inPrague, was the fact, that he liked the gallery! Not interiors, but basically how the building looked like!

So here is a couple of shots. They were taken by a phone, so please consider their bad quality.

The Green Butchers

Another Danish movie that is worth seeing. Not such a masterpiece as another Jensen´s film Adams æbler, but it still keeps that specific Nordic sense of humor you can´t find anywhere else.

It´s slightly hard to classify the movie, since it´s not a real comedy, nor drama, despite a couple of both funny and sad consequences. Reminded me Sweeney Todd a bit, even though the plot and the way how things developed were completely different. You shouldn´t expect any extreme or dramatic story, yet the main characters themselves evoke so many distasteful feelings that it gets very easy to believe them, hate their way of thinking and feel sorry for their useless life. And still, get prepared for some smartly absurd moments as well – as a “don´t threaten me with your giraffe” scene.

To read or not to read…. in English!

One year abroad and a semester, when I had to read almost nothing but English literature, learned me to feel familiar with this language. Of course, I am completely aware, that my skills aren´t perfect and that I still make many mistakes, but it has become hundred percent easier to communicate, understand and express myself during last year and a half. Need a rest? Let´s bake a carrot cake

Even though that probably sounds completely insane, the best way how to have a rest after a long day at work is to bake something. At least for me. I have already proved that in Autumn when it was a pumpkin season and I improved my amazing pumpkin pie.

So I basically just confirmed my theory this week.

Whoever decides to go to Riga…

… stay at The Naughty Squirrel Backpackers hostel, it´s definitely one of the best places I have ever put my backpack to. Actually it´s the best rated hostel in Latvian capital, but I reckon that the word of mouth always does the best work, which is why I decided to mention the place.

Journalism is the best cure

As you might know, I have been working as an editor-in-chief of an independent newspaper at my university. Independent basically means that we don´t get any funds from the uni, but earn them by selling our journal and letting companies advertise there. Anyway, that´s not the point I would like to talk about. Read more of this post

Winter Wondering

It is quite hard for me to find a music I would really like and that would follow the way how I perceive life, the people around and things that happen to me in general. In autumn, for instance, I suffered from the total lack of inspiration and therefore kept stuck on the pieces I was listening to already during spring or after returning to my country, which started to feel more and more cliché actually.

During past months it has changed anyway. I have randomly found some great pieces (at least for me!), which perfectly express my winter wondering, January craziness and February dreaming. I will not post all of them, since the list could be quite long…

It is also gonna be nothing surprising for those who know me better or who had spent some time with me. If it is the case of you, please just quip the post and rather send me some other recommendations, so that I could continue developing my playlist. Read more of this post

US Student Loan Debt Bomb

I published an article about the next threat for the US market and it was slightly successful – already has more than 100 likes on Facebook and more than 15 thousands of views. Know it is childish to enjoy that, but after the last couple of days I have really needed some kind of satisfaction that would keep me believe, that at least some of the things I spend my time on, make a sense… Nevertheless, the news is very interesting itself anyway, so I decided to translate the basic ideas. If somebody would like to learn more on the topic, it is possible to check the study “Student Loan Debt Bomb:America’s Next Mortgage-Style Economic Crisis” which I used as one of my sources. Scenes from the Central Market in Riga

As you might know, I spent two nights and a day in the Latvian capital last week. Since I had already visited Riga for a couple of times before and it was freaking cold anyway, I gave up for any kind of sightseeing and photoshooting. I just passed my most favourite spots (= walked around the whole city centre actually) on my way to the Czech embassy, and then was only moving from one pub (Lido) to the other (Charlie pizza) to meet some friends of mine.

Appart from that, I also visited the Central Market, which contains of some five buildings and where you can buy almost everything. The quality of the pictures is very low this time, because I am still a bit reluctant considering photographing foreign people (= basically afraid that somebody will kick my face) and my batteries were getting discharged  every five minutes because of the freeze… Read more of this post

The high heels season

Whoever met me during spring or summer time will perhaps think that I went crazy or that it is not me writing the post. But those who spend winters with me, should confirm that I am still sober and telling truth and nothing else.
